Congratulations to our July 2015 Athlete of the Month!
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a Corrections Tactical Officer for the Travis County Sheriff’s Department. I have always loved working out and the duties of my job require me to stay in shape. What makes working out so fun and exciting is that my wife loves working out just as much as I do and without her I probably wouldn’t do it as much. We love running and competing and with the box we get to compete and have fun together.
What brought you to CrossFit?
I needed a change from going to the gym every day and doing the same things. My wife and I had always wanted to try it out so when we moved to Kyle, we found a local CrossFit box and have loved it ever since.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Just hit one year
How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness?
It has made me want to work out and push myself harder. At CrossFit Hays, we have met new people, made friendships, and the atmosphere at the box just makes you want to come back for more. I have reached a new level of fitness. I started lifting more weight and reaching new PR’s. I have even started doing lifts that I thought I could never do.
Least favorite movement?
Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit.
I want to get in better shape and be able to compete at a higher level at work and outside of work.
Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting CrossFit?
Never give up because you can’t perform a certain lift or weight, keep trying and look to your coaches for help.
Congratulations Darren! We are so happy to see what you have accomplished in just one year. Keep up the hard work!
