May 2015 Athlete of the Month: Elizabeth (Liz) Knight

Congratulations to our May 2015 Athlete of the Month!

Name: Elizabeth Knight

Age: 34

Tell us a little bit about yourself. I’ve been married for 13 years. I really enjoy reading, watching live music and spending time with my husband just hanging around the house or at the box. Recently I have decided to set a goal of six Spartan Races this year for a Double Trifecta.

What brought you to CrossFit? I ran a Spartan Race with some friends from work and let’s just say we were ill prepared. On that 10 mile course we saw and met groups of amazing and helpful people. The majority of people who were cheering us on and helping us along the course were crossfitters. People of all shapes and sizes strong and committed to the team effort. That was something I wanted in a gym and here I am almost one year down the road.

How long have you been doing CrossFit? May 26th will be one year.

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness? Crossfit has really taken me to another level in my life. I’ve never felt better. My asthma was so bad that the doctors had me on several medications and told me I would be dragging an oxygen tank in my elder years. I now only have a rescue inhaler and feel like I’ve been given a new pair of lungs. With the support of CrossFit Hays, I’ve learned to eat better and exercise not just to reach short term goals, but to have a better quality of life.

Favorite movement? Squat clean

Least favorite movement? Double unders

Name one goal and/or personal record you would like to accomplish through CrossFit. I would like to be able to power clean 150lbs by the end of this year.

Do you have any advice for someone who is just starting CrossFit? When I look back at when I started, I thought “wow I need to get into shape before I start this”. This may be your initial reaction. My advice is to keep an open mind and listen to your coaches and your body. Modify when you need to; drink plenty of water, slow down…..just NEVER QUIT. Know that the coaches and members of the box are there for you.
